Working with the community

Many organizations want to help grow Valemount and provide amazing services for us and our families. Sometimes they need council's help to do that work. These nonprofits are vital. One way to help is through tax exemptions, but there are other ways to help when tax exemptions are impractical or unaffordable: council can and must advocate for these groups.

Good examples of that are when the council of 2011 worked with government and First Nations to clear the road for the fledgling bike park.  We also helped Valemount Tourism finally complete the Cranberry Marsh Trail boardwalk.

Another great way of moving the community forward was working with the Community Forest on two major projects: buying the Valemount Industrial Park (to secure future industrial jobs), and expanding the community forest. Not every great idea needs to be council's idea. Sometimes it is wise just to support what local people are already doing.

What we need right now is to support the groups that are offering services to Valemount's growing number of families and seniors.

We need a council that recognizes the strength of this community doesn't reside in Victoria, it lives right here in Valemount.

What sets Valemount apart is what the community is willing and able to bring to it.
